Patterns
So lately I've been contemplating this world that we live in and have been entertaining the idea of patterns. Now stick with me here. The idea is that everything in nature, everything that we do, anything that happens can be represented by a series of numbers. That up to one point everything must repeat...Like the ocean for instance. Every wave may be represented by a mathematical equasion and some exact waves may happen more than once.
Feel free to comment on any ideas you have as well :D

this is reminding me of the whole "history repeats itself" theory, which, mind you, is most probably true. that's sort of what you mean is it not? only more so?
That's a cool idea. I thought the same of music. Like it take a damn long time but there's only so many audible pitches. Eventually we will HAVE to write a song that has already been written.
See I think that a lot of the music around these days is guilty of being alike to at least one song that has already been written. I find myself being less and less indulged by music for that same reason. I think that lyrics are the key to keeping music on its feet. And for the moment most of the stuff being produced tends to have a certain selfishness about it. I don't mean selfish as in "This is my song and you can't have it" I mean that most artists seems to only write about whats going on inside their little bubble. Always writing about how their girlfriend dumped them or their pick up wont start or maybe about just how gangster they are. I appreciate music that kind of pushes our minds to incorperate more than just ourselves into the mix...I guess a greater understanding of the universe we live in. Sorry if that seems a little incongruant...I'm a little tired lol
such a cool thought -- the ocean as a mathamatical equation. shit. that's the last the thing i thought we could compute. have you ever stood in the ocean and watched how crazy the waves are? i thought they could never be the same, especially considering how the ocean is constantly changing (you can feel it pulling away under you feet).
as for repeating, what i find really incredible about string theory is (if it can be proven) that there can be a unified mathematical theory for what happens on a microscopic level and also on a cosmic level. it makes sense though -- when you look into a microscope at our cells rushing around and dna being formed, it looks a lot like the universe with stars dying and being born and forming galaxies.
there is a universe in us and around us. crazy.
ooh, and what you just said about wanting music to have a greater understanding of the universe we live in instead of being so selfish is such a cool example of just what i was saying about their being a universe within a person. i suppose the problem is when we stare into the microcope for too long and forget about seeing with the unaided eye, let alone looking through a telescope.
we mustn't forget there are universes within universes.
an we must stop writing the same damn song over and over. nothing else repeats itself as much as humans.
i duno i guys i just really want to say I LOVE U GUYS...the ideas we come up with are to say the least mind altering...thinking about it i dont think as a human being (all the limits and limitations we place on our minds) one could comprehend any of this and in order to comprehend i mena really understand it i gues you have to transcend those boundaries and i guess thats what hermits spend their lives doing hermits, monks theres just so much and they spend their lives trying to transcend the limitations on themselves...hahahha if you havent noticed i have a tendanny to repeat myself...i guess what we have here is away of transcending those boundaries but as a community and not an individual which is a beautiful thing
I agree. I love you guys. We've certainly begun to transcend some boundaries here. Monks go inside themselves to explore the universe from the inside out and we're going from the outside in -- out into our community and into the stars (with our thoughts) in order to come back in and, hopefully, understand ourselves better... I think that's the goal of theatre. And theatre really is (at its essence) a meditation on/exploration of meaning of human existance.
I'm not so sure that your numerical representation theory is accurate. If you assign everything on Earth a number, you don't technically have to start over since there are an infinite amount of numbers, coupled with the fact that it would be impossible to numerically categorize everything since there are an infinite number of ways you could break everything down, and if you do it at the atomic level....well, atoms can be broken down too, can't they? And we don't know how far things can be broken down; perhaps that's an infinite number too.
However, if you had a theoretical system in which everything was numbered, as long as the system interacted with itself, patterns would occur between the numbers. In any self-interacting system, patterns develop. There is no such thing as true entropy because of the development of these patterns. Theoretically, a pattern would arise out of a categorization of all life forms on Earth, or whatever categorization you'd like.
I do not think that we will one day write a song that has already been written. Even though it is possible, given an infinite amount of time, the fact is that we don't have an infinite amount of time to do this since the world will indeed come to an end at some point.
This topic sort of reminds me of the concept behind the movie "Pi".
that reminds me of love 22.
love 22, (that's his real name, he legally changed it) is a street performer/crazy person. he's a friend of my dad's. he is obsessed with the number 22. he has a system where each number of the alphabet corresponds with a number it starts off as A-1 B-2 C-3, but then the numbers start repeating. there are ridiculous amounts of numbers that add up to 22. - and he's memorized them all. he also knows all the dates with 22 in them (there's alot). he's completely insane. when you talk to him his sentences sound something like this: " hi, how are you - that adds up to 22." and he says it so naturally and so quickly it's almost surreal. i suggest going to his website which is www.love22.com it starts off with:
(ABECEDARIANS "STYLED" "LINE")
("PLEASE" FIND THAT IN MY BOOK)("22" WORDS-ALL CAPS-IN QUOTES)
(IF WORDS HAVE PARENTHESES)(ALL ARE "22" LETTERS & NUMBERS)
(CAPITALS & QUOTATION MARKS)(ALWAYS "ADDS-UP-2" TWENTY-TWO)
he's from florida. he runs for president every year. i would vote for him.
